The Dark Forest

1/AN ENTRANCE to a vast and strange forest he knows only fools enter. Yet, there is a call he cannot help but heed, and he slips through the gap into the dark.

The sound of frogs grows louder, and through the trees he spies the glow of 2/A BECKONING LIGHT ON THE MARSH. Enchantment pulls him from the path and nearly to the maw that waits for him in the water.

He escapes, taking 3/REFUGE IN THE BOUGHS OF THE ANCIENT OAKS. He dreams of home, the path to which was lost the moment he entered.

4/A PROCESSION OF REVELING CULTISTS interrupts his rest. Their dancing lures the hero from the safety of his branches, joining their trance.

Their destination is a grove rising from which is a great stone plinth. The singers step forward, and stone joins their song, the sky weeping. They are 5/AWAKENING THE EDIFICE. Dread fills his chest, but he cannot stop them, it is too late for them all.

6/LAMENT him for he is dead, lament him for his folly; he is at rest, and the forest still remains.
